Earlier this week, The Learning CIC spent a day with Maltby Academy’s Year 7’s.
The students enjoyed an extended learning session to support their understanding and exploration of the text, ‘Millions’, that they are currently studying in English.
The session involved them looking at the concept of spending money sensibly and being able to come up with appropriate reasons for their spending. This involved the students creating a list of things that they would want to buy with £1,000,000 and then justifying their reasons.
The students then also pitched and debated how money could be used to support charities and used their persuasive and analytical skills to decide which charities needed the money and would use it most appropriately.
All students were encouraged to utilise characterisation when deciding which items to spend their money on, and having to remain in role when presenting their spending plans.
It was a fantastic workshop! The students worked well and enjoyed the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom as well as develop their persuasive skills.
